I'm looking for the closest IKEA Store.. has anyone had any experience with them? I'd like to purchase it and have it shipped here in Doha but I cant seem to find a site where I can purchase it online. Is it practical to have it shipped from the UAE or Saudi? Please let me know, I appreciate it.
Oh... I saw the !!! and got excited, thinking that someone had learned that an Ikea was going to become part of our local shopping choice...
Nuts!
So it goes.
I'll go next month when I'm in Kuala Lumpur. As it turns out, apparantly the Ikea in KL (or Klang valley as it is) is the largest one in Asia. We'll see how it goes. I want to get one of those 4-season duvets. Yeah, I know, you can get them here. But the ones I've seen have price tags of 700 QAR or so. Much cheaper to go buy it yourself, even if I have to ship it.
Since Ikea in Dubai / UAE is managed by Al Futtaim and so are Marks and Spencers and Toys R Us and they have outlets for the two here so why not IKEA?
Home Center is actually the only other feasible option. Luckily I got stocked up on my IKEA stuff before coming here and it has arrived in our shipment.
I can let you know if someone else is relocating from Dubai and maybe they can get your stuff in their shipment.

My wife and I drove to the UAE back in April and it was a rather nice road trip. There is also an Ikea in Riyadh, which may be easier than driving to UAE. Also, you may want to ask them about shipping as well, as it would entail one fewer border crossing.
IDesign might be similar in style, but not in prices. PAN Emirates furniture on Salwa road (next to SKODA dealership) has some interesting stuff. And of course there is an option to drive to Abu Dhabi and bring your 4x4 full of furniture in boxes.
thanks a lot for that! So now I know I need to visit the store but does have any past experience of buying and getting the products shipped? Was it practical?
Again, does anyone know of any other stores in Doha that are similar to IKEA?
any idea what the shipping rate is like then? I can fly to Dubai but i'd much rather find a similar store here in Doha. Any ideas?? And.. pink were you kidding about me asking you for the furniture? How would it be feasible... haha
i luv ikea, half of my furniture is from der well half of my furniture in my place in england here umm maybe 1/4, its always a hassle tryin to get it flown in ... but if u want im goin 2 england in like a month and 2 weeks if u want i can bring some back for u, im pretty used to the system by now . :)... :p
I like their style and so do many of my friends - the nearest one is in Dubai going by plane of course. The goods can come by ship to Doha which is less expencive than plane and come quite quickly.
Unfortunately, not everyone I know is looking for furniture and doesn't admire their style like I do. Are there any similar stores in this area that I can buy from? I went to Modern Furniture and liked what I saw, however, I'd like to continue shopping around. Any ideas???
you know lost...one thing you might consider is this...get together with others, have them give you cash for the their purchases...and that should get your order up to enough to make it worthwhile to ship over...just a thought.
You have to go to Dubai and buy it in the store - and then get it driven overhere buy a truck... It's quite a hazzle - but it's depending on how much you will buy if it's worth it

Is the one in Dubai easy to get to?
1) maybe they haven't been given the license
2) Just because someone owns a dealership in one gulf country, it doesn't mean they own it all.
3) Ikea don't want to

Don't forget to mention that to drive to Riyadh one needs a non-transit Saudi visa, which is not easy to get.
