Home Centre
Hello, I am currently in Canada, never been to Doha. My daughter and I am going to join my husband (in Doha) this March. Recently, he found furnitures in Home Centre are on sale and would like to buy a set of bedroom furnitures for our daughter. Does anyone knows that if a 15%-20% discount is already a good deal in terms of stuffs in Home centre? Or maybe we should wait for a chance of further discount - if they have promotions quite frequently?
Appreciate any help!
UK! You think that's classy???? But then again, you have bought a Disco :o( No accounting for taste :P
Nabco has a sale!!!yippee! anyone interested?????
Baldrick is that Nabco on the Airport Road right? I never thought they sold decent furniture, but from your link it is really classy furniture..

HE WHO DARES WINS
that is one classy place lol
Amoud, I think i saw the one you mentioned. It looks nice. But my daughter doesn't like the color :(
Thanks a lot Baldrick. Now I'm gonna have nightmares!
Home center has a cool bunk bed set for kidws, with a desk under and another pull out bed for sleepovers as well as storage space in the stairs etc. If I had young ones I would be going for somthing like this...

Cherry08, if you want to see "typical" Qatar furniture, look here and see what hubby is up against!!!

In KSA we called it Saudi Gaudi!
Thank you all! Now I get some idea about shopping in Doha. This is my first message posted on Qatarliving. I didn't expect so many responses when I post it. You all make me feel much more comfortable when thinking of moving there :)
Lol Mandi, purple velvet in the living room and pink plastic in the bedroom. CLASSY.
When my kids and I arrived in Doha, my hubby had been living at the Sheraton for a month so he was itching to get into the house and get it furnished.
Believe me, furniture shopping while jetlagged and culture-shocked is NOT a good idea! I should have waited a while and become more familiar with my environment, prices, etc before taking that on. I never was completely happy with what we'd bought.
And now we've been here so long that we've had to replace it. It literally took months to find things we really liked.
My prayer is that we will not be here long enough to have to replace it again, because furniture shopping in this town is something I hope to never do again!
So Cherry....get it now!
So true, deedee!

One thing you will learn about shopping in Doha, is that if you don't get it when you see it, it will be gone. You better tell you husband to go immediately to Home Center or else it will disappear.
Have him go ahead and buy the bedroom set. It's one less thing you'll have to worry about when you come! The Home Center is just fine for a kid's bedroom and if it's a good price so much the better. When I first came to the Gulf our house didn't have any cabinets, closets, or cupboards, no furniture and not even so much as a teaspoon! I drove myself crazy trying to furnish five bedrooms and two living rooms. Mashaállah our house here came fully furnished, mostly from The One. Take it easy on yourself and let him do some of the work. You'll have enough problems with living room furniture unless you're a fan of Early New Orleans Bordello. Oh, and did I forget the king-sized pink plastic round bed with "mood lights"?

Cherry08, Homes r us is a bit like Home centre and has similar prices. It is in Hyatt Plaza. You can ask your husband to go there.
There is another chain called Pan Emirates which has a sale right now. They have branches in Dubai also. It is located on Salwa road near the Asiri bridge. Cant say it is awesome but i really liked a few things there(not all). the prices are a bit less than Home Centre.
I had to traipse around for months to find something I liked.
Purple velvet with fringe and feathers just isn't my style.
Cherry08, we've bought 2 sofas at IDesign and a couple of chairs at The One. The One's prices are high, but we got the chairs on sale.
IDesign has good sales but I'm not sure how often.
It is ONE of the cheapest. I do not know your budget of course. I got my stuff from The One and Apollo, both have lovely things but can be a bit expensive. However, it is slightly better quality.
Just come out, look around. If your daughter is happy that is great! Go for it, it will probaly last as long as her tastes do.
if u picked it then u like it... home center is not the most expensive store in town and sales in qatar are real discounted prices. the price is usually fair
That is why my husband chose Home Centre.
Thanks Justmoi. You are right that my husband never liked shopping around. But my daughter saw the pictures my husband took from Home Centre and picked one set already. And she is expecting to have the new room as soon as she get there.
BTW, Do you know any other places similar to Home Centre. Maybe I can ask my husband to have a look at before purchasing from Home Centre.
Do what I did, come out, sleep on air beds for a bit and chose yourself. Honestly, what you would like is not what your husband does. In my opinion, your husband, like most, is fed up with looking and gone for the safe option. Come out and look yourself.
He said that Home centre is currently having a promotion for basically all the furnitures by sending out credits for purchases.
Ugly. Gaudy. Not to mention poor quality.
It's hard to find good quality, practical stuff that appeals to Western taste.
However, there's plenty of stuff fit for a palace. Lots of velvet, lots of gold. Furniture made for looking at, but not practical for everyday use, especially if you have kids.
Home Centre is one of the places that has the more practical, less foofy stuff.
If there is furniture that he likes at a discounted price, go ahead and buy it.
I believe that you would hard pressed to find decent furniture at an additional discounted price.
My husband and I contacted a person that was selling some wardrobes made of wood (and not partical board) at a great price in the classied section here at QL.
There are people leaving Doha frequently and they want to sell their goods. You might want to check that out as well. :)
Thanks for your quick response.
However, i don't get your point. What does that mean when you say "hideous"?
Thanks again.
Most of the furniture here is hideous. If he found something he likes, he should get it now.
