you guys gotta go to the IKEA. They can show you the idea of...small room space can look nicer n cozy. Back in my country...me n my wife spent so much money on IKEA. It's Swedish company...but lots of stuffs written 'MADE IN CHINA' under.
more malls near to each other twice the traffic. poor urban planning..,bad road also means bad traffic.. what on earth are they doing i mean three malls in one place, is it unfair and unconvient for people living far to that place? they need to go that far beside the traffic to go to that mall? it's none sense
and do the transport on your own (organizing!) - thats how its works. ikea is cheap and cheerful, modern designs you actually cant find in doha. we have shopped in dubai all our furniture (better selection, better prices, better quality) and had a shipping company sent all over to us.
britexpat: ikea is famous for their food? meatballs, hot dogs & ice cream? seriously? and for sure the riyad ikea is crowded with arabs, KSA is the only GCC contry where arabs are not outnumbered by indians & pakistanis...easy :-)
I think that's pretty much the attraction in IKEA.They are cheaper than most places but look modern and unfussy. I long to have some of their home organizing stuff, but their oversees delivery policies are crazy. Tried to get some furniture shipped to Qatar when my BIL(!)was still working there in Dubai, and they turned out to be a big let down!
Though back in SL we only ever knew the classic Arabic term for father was Abu. In fact when we first got here we were a bit puzzled at to why kids kept calling their father's Baabaa!
No no..brother in law. What cracks me up is, depending on how it's pronounced, in Sri Lanka baba means either a baby or if you elongate the "a" and say it like "baabaa" then it means a mystic healer type man!
my residence will be soon surrounded by malls. wish i could transfer somewhere where there is less traffic, but I'm in Doha and Doha is synonymous (nowadays) to severe traffic!
We will have two adjacent malls (Ezdan and Gulf), opposite to Landmark (one can actually build a pedestrian glass tunnel if they wish) between those two malls and the landmark. Then we have the North Gate Mall right next to Tiebah Petrol Station (which is less than 2 Km away). Then finally, we have the Bin Twar mall on the other side from the landmark!!!
What's with the love of Malls.... I personally think money could be better spent building concert halls, for top named singers, or theaters for professional plays.
Build things for people and kids to do. Sports Arenas like Rock climbing, anything to be active. My 9 year old loved kids day where his scout group got to do rock climbing, skateboarding etc..in a indoor gym. Why isn't there anything positive like that ?
I personally don't find the need for malls, never have, never will, unless for a cinema like Britexpat says.
my husband said 3 more malls going towards north, 1 mall beside landmark, northgate mall beside tebah petrol station and the doha festival city after approx. 5kms... I can't imagine the traffic, hope they have new roads parallel to shamal road.
heard they are planning to increase the no. of shops by dividing one shop into two or more. That's the way EZDAN works otherwise who else can keep the Mall unoccupied for months after completion.
who really shops in doha... The international brands that are here, have half the selection and are double the price. Save your money and shop elsewhere... If there was more to actually do in Doha (culturally or events) - the malls wouldn't be so packed..
That you find yourself totally unenthusiastic about the many malls mushrooming around?I just can't muster up the desire to be a mall rat now, unlike in the past. That said I am awaiting the opening of IKEA. Wanna know first hand why this Swedish sensation has won the hearts of many shopaholics and foodies alike.
Oh and you think any of the new malls will house a Hotel Chocolates boutique? That would be awesome!
...it gets worse - between the "soon to open" Ezdan Mall (I hope the mall is better constructed than their Villas) and Lulu there is ANOTHER Mall "opening soon" - Gulf Mall!!
Soon there will be NO need to go to Villagio.........
You are obviously NOT an urban planner. According to Doha News, there will be another mall adjacent to this one. Just think of it, we could spend the weekend "mall-hopping"

roundabouts really fascinates them? lol. Too much roundabouts in qatar! sigh~
Wouldn't eat anything they serve at Ikea even if they paid me....ewwww disgusting.

We have ikea back in my country. It's cheap stuff you put together yourself with modern designs.
and just wondering what happened to the mall of Asia that was supposed to open out here or have they now downgraded it to a corner shop out of town.
Baba in arabic means Dad/ Father..

Fathima,
BIL = Baba In Law?
IKEA can't open fast enough!
You Too ??
I love their Daim Cake to go with the all you can drink coffee :O)
I am not Arab...and I believe I have quite good taste, even though I say so myself(and I'm sure so do Arabs!).
That said my BIL used to work at IKEA in Dubai and my sister used to have tons of their furniture and stuff.
Personally though I'm mostly lookin forward to their food specially the Daim cake!
IKEA in Riyadh is frequented mostly by Arabs.
Don't bother going to visit IKEA. It's not meant for arabs. It's much morea western tast and concept: good taste I mean!
.
Looks like Ezdan Mall is not going to open this September as reported.
Find a bachelorette and get a passport into the malls.
Window shopping is very therapeutic when mafi riyal.
Will there be a dress code ?
We could have special shops.
Tina Hortons
Paula
Massima Dutti
That sounds like an idea....with so many malls close to each other why not declare one of the malls "For Bachelors Only" for fridays...:)
Oh great!!! Now Doha is getting smaller for us bachelors every Friday.
hope they provide connections to these malls and expect more traffic in the area...
hope they provide connections to these malls and expect more traffic in the area...
That area is already busy as is imagine with all those mall how busy it will get
Thats what I said why do they need 3 malls all next to each other never seen that ever in the states!
we need more parks so people could spent their weekends out of their homes especially during the cold months.
I believe the plan is to have Malls in all corners of Doha , so that people can go to their local one rather than having to travel long distances.
you forgot to add 'Festival City' just 3km North of these malls.
my residence will be soon surrounded by malls. wish i could transfer somewhere where there is less traffic, but I'm in Doha and Doha is synonymous (nowadays) to severe traffic!
yeah buddy, it's been a long time.
let us hope this mall also EZDAN make with cheap materials and cheap accessories and interiors !!!!!
as they do for their accommodation "villages "
Hooray,..

He could probably get from one to another in a "roundabout" way
Brit, that would be to easy.... Now wouldn't it???
How's Ryan gonna manage?
I wonder if there will be traffic lights beftween each Mall..
It's for Ryan Canuck
He just loves R/A's. Lol
Don't ca Ryan?
Change residence.
Long time no see still waiting.
Our way going to the office will be MORE horrible soon. :((
50 malls in Dubai, adjacent to each other?
There are more than 50 malls in Dubai and many are adjacent to each other. Each one is popular for specific brand or products.
it will be managed by Ezdan Shopping Malls Co, which was recently formed to handle the leasing and operations of their 3 upcoming shopping malls
Wonder if they have the same management as Ezdan Towers :O(
they have a kids play area toooooooooo
One will be for the males to shop in...the other for the Females... so the twain shall never meet ...lol
there's bebe boutique that i saw from the outside.
heard they are planning to increase the no. of shops by dividing one shop into two or more. That's the way EZDAN works otherwise who else can keep the Mall unoccupied for months after completion.

That's good, the more people are in the malls, the less people are on the roads!

Oh and you think any of the new malls will house a Hotel Chocolates boutique? That would be awesome!
And there is a third new mall to be open..right up the road - about 2 min to be exact..the Doha festival city..which will house the new ikea
So we r next to (completely unplanned) about 5 diff malls that will be functional in the next 6 mths
And all of them super sized!
That's scary!
Can't wait. We can mall hop from one Tim Hortons to another.. or is it Tome Hirtins ?
wow,, how come I haven't noticed Tim Hortons???? Great... then let them be.. approved..
Finally....Tim Hortons in Doha...can't wait for it
What's with the roundabout inside the mall?
from one Massimo Dutti to another one across the street... Excellent!
And the most entertaining part is that they all have pretty much the same shops...:P
...it gets worse - between the "soon to open" Ezdan Mall (I hope the mall is better constructed than their Villas) and Lulu there is ANOTHER Mall "opening soon" - Gulf Mall!!

Well it must be true then..
Can't wait for the doubling of the foot falls...
I just didn't get it, why they need one Mall opposite of another one... something new in the urban planning..
We can't get enough of them
BTW it was supposed to open this month as per Doha News.
