Can Americans go to the Air Force Base and shop at the commissary??

Does anyone know the answer to this? If we show our passports maybe? Is the base strictly off limits to anyone except military personnel? What about ex-military? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. : )
Thanks Vegas, my hubby is ex-army and wanted to go and check things out there at the base. He figured he wouldn't be able to get on base, but the question was worth asking. : ) Thanks again.
I have never been to the base in Qatar, but have been stationed at several US bases on foriegn land - and none of them allowed civillians to come in and purchase goods at the base exchange unless they were retired or active duty dependants.
No you can't shop at the base. Even if your retired. You must have an active duty identification. Your only hope is to get a job on the base. And they don't have a commisarry. Only a Base Exchange. But they do carry food items.
