I ordered 5 small electronic accessories (cables etc.) through amazon.com in one single order. I have a US address served by Aramex. Amazon sent the items in 5 different packages at 5 different times, so Aramex promptly charged me 5 times. Does amazon normally do this ?
when you put items in cart in amazon always check if it is sold and shipped by amazon or another supplier. If all your items are sold and supplied by amazon and if they have not mentioned any special order or time limit for the order it will be shipped in one package.
in your case it seems you have ordered items from amazon but different suppliers so hence its shipped from different parts to you.
Not sure why you say it was an Amazon.com blunder, they made no mistakes. Usually items like this come from independent suppliers working with Amazon (they usually say who the supplier is). If that was the case, each item would be shipped seperately. If Amazon itself were the supplier, they would still sometimes ship in multple tranches, depending on which warehouse it was coming from. I order from them a lot, and more often than not there are multiple shipments. Doesn't bother me, since I either bring the suiff over with me when I make the trip back, or have someone who is coming over bring it for me. I don't use Aramex.
Unfortunately this is how Amazon work. Even if you do select group items together there is no guarantee that they will come as one package. What would be nice is if there was an Aramex option that would allow you to batch a weeks worth of deliveries in one shipment. But that is just wishful thinking.
Also get Aramex to check the weight in front of you when you go to collect your items. I have caught them a couple of time slightly increasing the weight to move you into another .5kg

It depends on whether all the cables came from the same supplier.
There's also a check box to say "Group items to reduce shipping" or some such
