How exactly does the air miles membership work?do you have to use your credit card to get air miles?or can you use it with your debit card also?are there any charges for using the card?
am relatively new to the concept-would be great if somebody could help me out here........
You get Airmiles with participating outlets and banks. HSBC credit cards offer airmiles..go their website and you can detail of all the partipating outlets..
Really, the only miles worth compiling are the airlines' own frequent flyer miles. And the best value for redemption (miles to the $) is the upgrade ticket. I have been able to upgrade on BA to business class with miles on my last six flights to DOH.
I wouldn't get too excited if I were you. Firstly, the rewards are terrible, and I calculated that to get a flight to London (not including the taxes) i would need to charge over 270,000QR to my credit card in purchases. That's rather a lot.
To get a 100 riyal voucher for a shop means you need to charge about 15,000QR to your card to get enough points.
I find the scheme quite insulting actually. Consider that HSBC cards are REALLY expensive with the charges and in the real world you can find loyalty schemes which actually give rewards worth something. I tried to pay for a return flight using part miles and part cash.. they said "we'll charge you 30,000 miles + 2,350 QR + taxes and charges"; I checked the airline website for that flight and the flight was on sale for 2,390QR so I just cut the card up and threw it away!
Try Commerical Bank or QNB cards - you get actual real QPoints for your purchases, as opposed to meaningless numbers sent through the mail on patronising leaflets!
You can pay however you like in participating outlets, however the rewards are pretty crap, unless you book lots of tickets through Mannai and buy all your petrol at Teyseer!
I gotta rectify an error I inadvertently made - I just had a chance to flip through again the welcome brochure. We can only collect the air miles from participating companies obviously. I didn't notice the companies were that limited but, maybe because this particular reward programme is just starting off. I'm used to these reward programmes being more widely participated by merchants / vendors / sellers but ...
So anyway, in my case, I'll have to look for Mannai Air Travel or the few others listed to book my subsequent flights.
There's a middle page in the brochure which I took out, which has the participating companies' logos printed, so I'll use that as a guide.
Apologies for my last sentence in my post above. Was too busy and missed the information in the brochure. And also, there's no need to use a credit card for purchases to collect the points. Can use cash BUT if use HSBC's CC, then we collect air miles from both HSBC and the merchant - additional points to work towards redeeming whatever..
/But if use HSBC cc, will also collect points. Hmm.. ok. After the 1st few purchases and trouble with HSBC, I've not bothered to use the cc.. it's been 0 ... Any more trouble with HSBC and you can bet almost the whole world will hear about it. ... and that's way past chance No. 4...

I really dunno how it works cos I tried to pay for my air fare home recently and asked if I could collect air miles points, I was told no.
Yeah, supposed to be able to collect the air miles points if you use your credit card for the purchases.
This air miles thingy sounded interesting but not workable...
