Bahrain is a place in Swat which lies also in the northern areas. Gilgit Baltistan is another area. The question of becoming a Pakistani resident can only be advised by the Pakistani embassy. If you wear the Pakistani dress "Shalwar - Kameez" it may allow you to mingle with the crowd easily.
You will have a great time in the Northern Areas (Now Called Gilgit - Baltistan) . Places Like Hunza, Swat Valley, Astor, Nagar are a must visit. The scenic beauty and the climate of these areas are awe inspiring.
Key times to visit Gilgit-Baltistan are:
April & May: Apricot Blossom in bloom in Hunza, Shigar & Khaplu
October & November: Hunza Autumn colours
July & August: Wildflowers at their best in the Deosai Plains
June, July & August: The warmest months and best for trekking / camping
July: Shandur Polo Tournament.
April to September: Trout Fishing Season
Other: A series of polo tournaments take place from April to early May and from October to November
Alternately, there are other places in the KP province like Kaghan, Naran, Shugran, and Saif ul Mulk. I am not sure about the current status of these places but I had a great time long back in 2007.
(Perfect time to Visit - May - September.)
Regarding the Visas, you must visit the Pakistan embassy to get more information on Visas.
Good idea. You will get to see a lot of natural beauty in that region. Visit, Skardu, Gilgit Bahrain (Swat) etc and you will get an everlasting memory of what you get to see. I jut hope you are not an Indian as they do not get a visa.
