What kind of car will I need?

Hello eveyrybody,

I will move to Qatar in a few months and wonder what kind of car would best fit to my needs. I should be located in Mesaieed for three years. My budget should be somewhere around 80KQR. We are three people ( myself, wife and a newborn angel :o). I consider all activities I would do throughout my stay in Qatar such as fishing, random travel, beach etc.
I have chosen Suzuki Grand Vitara, Chevy Trail Blazer, Mitsubishi Pajero, Nissan Murano or Nissan Patrol. Prefer low milage and being used since 2005 latest.

thanx for each advise.

V.

maybe you could think about this Nissan X-trail. With the budget QR80k you can get a new one.

It's a very reliable car/suv for on/off road. you can even travel throughout middle east with this car...

If you are really looking for a 4x4 new one at 80k Suzuki Grand Vitara is not bad. As mentioned in your previous posts if you are ready to go for a second hand one then you can go for Nissan Pathfinder, Mitsubhishi Pajero or Toyota Prado. There is one Indian SUV which is very good if you are not interested in resale value. That is Mahindra - Scorpio (The latest model is excellent - have a look at it in Doha Motors)

Hi Baldrick,

2001/02 is rather old one, I'd prefer something a bit newer, as I'd mentioned 2005 and younger..

Yes, I'll be in Qatalum most probably and I thought myself about buying a 4x4.. just to make the right choice now.. :o)

Oops, sorry, thought you were saying salary of 80k. That much should get you a 2001/2 Patrol in reasonable condition - In fact, you could buy mine!

OK, you are working in Aluminium, which kinda suggests you'll be on the Qatalum project in Messaid. You'll most likely be staying in Doha and driving 30 - 40 minutes each way every day. The road is mostly straight, except for the roundabouts on the way so a great handling car is low priority. The site can be a mud hole on occassions, especially with winter fast approching so a 4x4 is a must.

You are also stating 80k - quite some salary! or is that the package total? If 80k is take home you can afford a brand new Patrol after 2 months!

Hi folks,

thanx for your care, mentioning Nissan Safari or Toyota Prado.. would my budget of 80KQR cover those cars? as I've mentioned, I would mind buying an older car the 2005..

After all, I see buying a saloon car makes no sense in Qatar, if not driven in Doha.. Any diesel cars available?

Dont know y people r comparing mileage here when Petrol is cheeper dan water in Doha. Seriously... 1L of petrol(super) cost 80Dirhams while a liter of water cost 1 Qar. Woteva car tht u plan 2 buy, get an automatic... Due 2 de up-roar of cars running all around Qatar... U really dont wanna get stuck in de traffic shifting gears...!!!
