Outlander is a better choice than the segment competitors, CRV and Rav4 when it comes to price and soft off-road performance.
( in any case none of the above cars are meant for real off road stuff)
Of course for many, Mitsubishi lacks the refinement and glamour of Honda/Toyota, but I based my new car buying research on first hand feedback from Outlander users, online reviews and price factor.
I found Outlander fits the frame perfectly and so did a friend of mine.
We bought two Outlanders (mid option, 2008) last week and got a great great deal from those so-friendly & nice staff at QAC.
All in all if the price is the problem, get a car which has ben returned to the dealer ship or owned by someone who's leaving the country with a 1000 km or 5000 km use (the less the better) and the car will lose a lot of its price, this is a very good deal.
A lot of the cars are returned here because once bought the owner decides he doesnt like it and then they return it, in addition to all the people who leave the country which have just bought a new car.
I also agree with boss 99, we have a mitsubishi pajero also which is an excellent car but the driver uses it so it is mainly been used softly and in a moderate way, it is always better to get the advice from the cars owner, the spare parts are expensive but I get a 30% discount at mitsubishi so it is always cheaper than a toyota to maintain, yet again honda 4 wheelers stay away from them they are not that great, the honda sedans are beuatiful but if you get a camry it will have a better after sale price.
For the toyota prado I strongly agree even if it was 4 cylinders although it is a small engine. The toyota fortuner is a good car but it is basically a pick up / truck which was extended into a full 4 wheeler, you can notice when u look at it and the inside is a bit plasicish.
Still any car you buy is much cheaper in Saudi, if you realy care about the money then buy the car you want which exceeds your budget but from saudi, (your toyota or american four wheeler such as yukon)and then buy the service/warranty from the dealer here, at toyota it costs 5,000 QAR to get it, as for yukons im not sure.
You cannot compare honda 4 wheelers to mitsubishi 4 wheelers, mitsubishi is always better, honda was never a 4 wheel drive car and the cars in their production line of 4 wheel drives are lame, only attractive to british, europeans, ausies and south africans, the honda sedans on the other hand are very unique and incredibley reliable cars, when it comes to four wheel drive, even the cheapest jeep cherokee is 10 times better than the crv or mrv or outlander, yet again american cars are always american cars, the worst to buy in the gulf for their after sale price, the depreciation is very rapid and huge in amount, japanese is the best in the gulf, japanese cars have proven to be the top of the line over here and the demand on these cars even the used cars market is supporting the price, i mean a toyota land cruiser model 1995 is stuck on a price which is 45% of its original price it will never go below tat, nissan loses more of the after sale price than a toyota but it is still japanese, relatively mitsubishi also holds a good after sale price, so does honda.
It is very reliable, the company/agency "NBK" is great. The service is excellent at the Mitsubishi Dealers and they will make it worth while your investment.
The outlander is a very beautiful car, the interior is also very stylish. The options make a big diffrence, the seats type, the rims, the sunroof, cd changer, bumper lights.
Now if you are thinking of going to the dunes in the inland sea and off-roading, then the Outlander is deffinitely not the car for it, you would need a Pajero (2 doors or 4, the 2 doors is better) for that, the best in off-roading and duning is only the following no matter what people tell you, we live here we've been born and raised and we know what works and what would just manage to work, the supreme cars for duning are the Toyota Landcruiser and the Nissan Patrol (2 doors or 4, the 2 doors is even better), don't let any one at any showroom convince you other wise, we're talking about 30 years of experience here !
Now if the prupose of the car is not going to the inland sea and inner sea line + other areas with similar type of sand then go for the out lander, I'm not saying the outlander will not reach the inland sea, give me a saloon car and I will take it there but it puts a lot of pressure on the engine and gear, you wouldn't want to take an outlander there, it is simply not made for that, it is basicaly a 4-5 seater car that looks nice, and is a four wheel drive just incase something happens + it is higher than saloon / sedan cars which is better, the height and size also makes it safer for who ever is in it, but it can never be put in the category of a real 4 wheel drive.
Mitsubishi 2008 onwards has 10,000 km service interval, so you don't need to bring the car to workshop very often. For 2.4 liter version, the power is slighly higher than CRV. But the best option is the V6 3.0 Liter full option version. It has built in DVD, 220 BHP, 6 transmition with paddle shift, Roksford Fosgate 700 watt with 10" subwoofer, 18" alloy, etc which are not available in CRV full option, but still with the lower price.

A lot of plastic-made material in the interior...
always listen from whom own a mitsubish..
I owned pajero since last 3 years..
realy it is a good car only for the first 2 year..
service is very bad... spare parts are expensive..
I think outlander cost 90k Qr .. do u think it worth that much ??
better go for toyota fortuner or toyota prado 4V or any honda 4wd
think twice before u fall in trouble with that mitsubish dealer ..
good luck
