How dark can you tinkt your car windows?
Does anybody know what the regulations are about how dark you can tint your car windows? I ask because previously I had been told it was quite a slight amount (10% or something). But I have seen MANY cars on the road with windows tinted so dark I couldn't even tell if there was someone in the driver's seat (let alone their gender, dress, age, etc.).
Is this just another example of locals (because it seems to be mostly locals) doing whatever they want, regardless of the rules? Or can you legally tint your windows nearly completely black (and I mean ALL the windows, front and back windshields included)?
While I can understand the arguments made for local climate (tinting reduces inside car temps), and cultural modesty (locals don't want strange guys staring at their sister or wife in the back seat), I would think it would be EQUALLY important to have enough visibility that outsiders could ID the driver or at least the number of occupants in case of an accident or traffic violation/crime.
20% is how much u can tint ur vehicle windows, but keeping in mind that the front & back along with driver side and passenger side is left as it is. U hav 2 pay up about 20/- Qar and get it written in ur car istamara from the Traffice dept.
There are laws in Qatar, and there are people who break the laws in Qatar. You would need a hundred fold bigger police force to implement the laws. (Costs too much, and too many people would be related with the police).
Thanks for your answer, Hassan (and apologies for my misspelling of the word tint in my initial question!).
So then WHY do I see all these cars with nearly black windows on them, if you're not allowed to tint the windshields?
I get annoyed because invariably it is THESE cars, with the abnormally dark windows, whose drivers are the most arrogant on the road. They're the ones who ride the shoulder and cut into lines, who tailgate and flash their high beams at you, who make a left hand turn from the far right lane because they'd rather endanger YOUR safety than go one R/A out of their way...
And I think that they are arrogant drivers, in part, because they know that nobody will be able to identify them as the driver should someone choose to go and file a complaint at the traffic police.
To me, this issue is the same as making women remove their naqab for an ID card picture or their passport photo. You should be able to ID other drivers on the road, and permitting cars with overly-tinted windows makes this impossible.
The front and the rear screens have to be clear type. Also, the driver's and the front passenger's window have to be clear type. The rest of the car, you can have as dark as you like.
