Fines for road accident

Hello there,

I heard that there is a new law has been implemented regarding the road accidents.

One of my friends had an accident where he hit the other guy from back. He had to pay QR 1100. ie; 100 QR as regular accident registration fee and a 1000 QR extra which is said to be an increased fine for making accident. Has anyone know about this? this isn't anywhere on their webpage or facebook.

Thanks for the replies.

Confirmed and it is 1100 for hitting from behind. Assume it's just for this case and not for other accidents.

True.. I assume the idea is to force people into keeping a safe distance to the car in front.. However, I agree that in this region, you leave a gap and someone instantly slots into it...

Yep but there is no fine associated with it. You pay the police report and then sort out your issue with the insurer.

It's the same rule in most countries... You hit from behind - It's your fault..

This is nonsensical. In this country many drivers have the bad habit of cutting you off without indicating and without leaving a proper distance. Am I gonna pay 1000 for every idiot that cuts me off if I can't break on time?

Will the Captain be able to reduce the fine ?

It's about time that they punish inabilities! Hitting another car from behind only means that you are unable to drive.
