I saw an old dodge durango copes up with desert driving from a friends video. if you want to go on desert driving, its wheel height is quite low and the underchassis is plate protected. a hummer or a land cruiser is the most recommended.
I'm selling my dodge durango SLT2006 19,000 kms for 65000qr only. Not because i don't like it but I'm buying my friends other SUV for a very low price. DODGE, It's a great SUV. Never driven an SUV with good riding comfort, with speed and maneuverability. I bought it because of the good review i got from it browsing the internet.
As regards to maintenance, My battery died after more than a year and they replaced it for free. For maintenance checks (oil change, etc.). Just call them and book in advance, if you need the car that afternoon, a maintenance manager in that center is a very good person to talk to.
As I mentioned above its a powerful car (345 hp) which gives you a lot of power when you need. But if you want to drive it like riding ATV and jump over the hills it is not suitable of course. For normal driving on desert you wont have problems; at least I did not have any problem yet. Hope it will help.
As an owner I would like to tell you the worst thing about dodge Durango. It the service itself. This is not only for Durango for sure all Chrysler/jeep and Durango same. Some time ago I wrote my comments about the service. Even they gave my friends car from service with a damage on the door. And sometimes you are saying I have this and that problem they are just changing oil and air filter and giving your car back to you. So I recommend private maintenance services if your car wont have guarantee. In any case if you drive and take of your car it wont bring you problems. For the performance of the car its very nice it takes 8-9 seconds for 0-100 km. Very powerful car and if you go desert you wont have so much problems since you wont try to challenge with patrol and land cruiser :).

How is the handling of the SUV in the desert. As i havent brought the vehicle. Planning to buy 2009 ver, or go in for a nitro. any suggestion
Great car for Doha roads heavy and powerful, good handelling (very little body roll) Quicker than a Toyota V8 hahaha
Bad points, terrble air conditioning it takes an age to cool the vehicle down.
No good in the desert due to the radiator sitting low in the engine department (learnt from experience)
Terrible fuel ecconomy due to permanent all wheel drive.
Brakes could be better due to the weight of the car.
Overall it's a lot of car for little money I would not spend the extra on a limited.

The Dodge is a very nice family car with lots of power. It is heavy on fuel but since fuel is cheap it is not that big a problem.
The normal maintenance is not expensive at all and there are no problems with the car if you look good after it.
However it is not designed for the desert as the suspension is very soft and u will damage the car if u dont take care in the desert.
