Al Rayyan Road upgrade begins
Highway improvements as part of Ashghal’s vital nationwide Expressway Programme have commenced on another significant arterial road into Doha.
The Public Works Authority — Ashghal — has started the first and second phases of Al Rayyan Road upgrade project to improve traffic and reduce congestion in an area vital for the flow of goods and people into the capital.
The first and second phases of the project, valued at about QR4.5bn, are part of Expressway Programme, designed to provide vital highway links across Qatar connecting key cities, towns and villages.
The projects aim to create a long-term, sustainable road network that continues to support social and economic development in response to strategic demands of Qatar National Vision 2030.
The Al Rayyan project will provide a high quality, safe and efficient road network, improving travel experience for road users in and around the area.
Phase one involves a 2.9km stretch from west of Khalid bin Abdullah Al Attiyah Roundabout (New Rayyan Roundabout) to the east of Bani Hajer Roundabout and is scheduled to be completed by Q4 of 2016.
The second phase stretching 5.3km from west of Sports Roundabout to the west of Khalid bin Abdullah Al Attiyah Roundabout is expected to be completed by Q3 of 2017.
As part of preparations for works, Ashghal has placed warning signs, barriers and other precautionary measures to regulate traffic. To minimise disruption during construction and ensure smooth traffic, Ashghal plans to create traffic diversions to accommodate current traffic in the area.
Once completed, the improvements in Al Rayyan will result in less congestion and improve journey time of road users. To encourage people to walk and ride bicycles, new and improved pedestrian pathways and cycle paths will be built.
are they going to build covered and airconditioned pathways to encourage me to walk?
