I am a western executive and during the process of reviewing the qualification of the employees,I found out that one of them has no qualification at all. When I reported this issue to the management, she went back to accuse me of harassment. The company investigated the incidence, and they found no evidence what so ever. I was terminated and she stayed, welcome to Qatar.Any one has similar experience?

well, whoever said that life is fair must be dreaming....especially if you are in Qatar. i agree with bubbly1975, at least you didnt waste more of your time in a company wherein your values and principles will be compromised..just move on..something better is bound to be yours soon

zhyiellha, You are right ,but the case will be going to the court for wrongful dismissal.

It is a matter of principle ,either you do your job according to the highest standards ,or forget about it. Wasta should never be at the work place, because lack of skill can have serious consequence on the company reputation. Would you fly in an Air plane that you know the pilot got his job by Wasta?think about it.

sad to hear your plight iron side, this is qatar, full of surprises! there was also someone i knew who got booted out for doing a trade skill test on an applicant in one government agency here, he made a report which stated the applicant wasn't qualified at all for the position he was aspiring and the next day he was suddenly kicked out from his job and sent home without the any reasonable explanation

You should fight for your right.. As what youve said, theyve found out that you are not guilty on the said matter... you better talk to the highest management and bring your concern.. You must prove to them that you are in the right position and they shouldnt do the way they do now...( opps, im thinking if the Right to speak is allow here in this QATAR)

Good luck to u anyway and MAY GOD BLesses u then.... have faith.....

iron-side....exactly my sentiments.....you are the chairman of the credential committee!!!!

and it is yer obligation to do so... but as what others are saying.... wrong move...

but if this is a consolation...

at least you stood by what you have done...

at least now, you will no longer put up with the WASTA SYSTEM,

if you have stayed, would you be able to "GO WITH THE FLOW??" and cringe each time you step down from the principles that u believe in???

all the best on yer job search again...

and if you'll still be working here or any GCC country, for that matter... i reiterate the wasta system that people always talk about...

So, did the concerned person actually have qualifications or not?

Are you saying that "company investigated and found in your favour ?"

If so, then its a strange thing called "Wasta"

You should be aware that rule number one, never get mess up when dealing with locals. Why should be be so particular about her qualification anyway, knowing the consequence. Good Luck

stealth,if you see something wrong and you report it does it mean that you are looking for trouble?sorry but I can't be an a.. kisser.

bubbly, since I was the chairman for the Credential Committee it was my job to review all employees files. And again I don't know what's wrong in reporting whatever is not right. Then why they created such a Committee???

Never say never

You're just been Qatarized? Welcome to the club!

bubbly1975

was it yer job to review the employees' qualifications??? if it is and you got terminated for that... then that's crap

but if you just meddled, and you felt obliged to handle the matter, not thinking that WASTA rules Qatar and any other GCC country, then that's another crap...

i have had friends who were terminated for the wrong reasons... things that they were accused of wrongly. and since the other party was "closer" to the administration, they took all the blame for it...

By stealth• 19 Jun 2009 10:14

well you asked for trouble thats all. What was your qualification anyway?
