tourist visa or transit visa?

Dear All,

I will visiting Doha on March 2013 for transit, which is only 6 hours transit, and I would like to meet with my old friend.

I am using Qatar Airways and have asked them for visa assistance which they cannot provide since my transit time is not over 24 hours, I also have asked the Qatar Embassy in Jakarta to provide me visa and seems they did not issuing a visa for either transit and tourist, but the Embassy suggested me to get a visa from the hotel.

So I booked a hotel for 2 days in regards to giving me visa assistance. But when I read the term and conditions it stated that I will be picked up by their staff and guided to the hotel and I have to provide what they called as "show money" 5000 QR or credit card in equivalent. Also the hotel will keep my passport during my stay otherwise I will get penalty 6000 QR.

The question is, if I don't want to stay at the hotel (it doesn't matter if they keep charging me for the hotel room) and just want to meet my friend at the restaurant around the airport they will charging me for 6000 QR because I am not staying at the hotel or deposited my passport?

Grateful if you could answer my dilemma.

Many thanks.

Regards,
F-

Yup, the hotel will pick you up as it is under their sponsorship you are coming and they will also keep your passport till the extend of your stay but you dont have to stay per say. Check in and then go and stay with your friend and come back when you are supposed to check out. They will keep your credit card details as a back up.

If you abscond the hotel will be held liable
