Marriage versus civil unions

Ok, I'm not actually planning on getting married. however, I have a hypothetical question about the process. I know that if you want to get a visa for your significant other than you must be married in your home country. What I'm wondering is whether or not a civil union qualifies?
Thanks
I actually have a similiar question,
I got married in Canada in a civil court with my husband and I want to join my husband whoch resides now in Qatar and live with him there. Would it be okay for me to get my marriage certificate stamped by the embassy of Canada and live with my husband in Qatar without any problems? we are both mulims,,,,,
of course. me & my husband has civil union..am now here under his sponsorship..
The only different is peice of paper
Civil Union is also a Marriage, only done by an civil Servant and not a priest. And it is ok for here of course
Civil union is acceptable by Qatar gov. as long as it's authenticated and stamped by your embassy. I got my wifes visa through civil union cert.
cool, thanks.
if u've had a civil marriage you still have a wedding certificate and it is still registered in ur home country s the same thing... no difference.. in some country the only marriage is civil ones so ... no worries
