you can NOT have dual residency, unless it's approved by Qatari MOI on the exceptional basis . Mostly for those who due to their work schedule should spend some time in qatar and some time in other GCC country. In your case it's not a case. Also why do you need Qatari RP anyway? As of May 1st you won't be able to freely travel from bahrain to qatar as GCC resident. You will need to obtain a VISA prior to travel to qatar anyway.

I’m not quite sure if you can have dual residence in GCC countries stamped on your passport . but I have heard that you can do it if you pay QR 5000 for the government but to be honest with you I’m not sure so plz double check that before you go for the Bahrain residence.

Yeah,

surely you don't need to cancel your Qatari visa at all. Because, you can have risidence card for Qatar and Bahrain or UAE or Saudi Arabia at the same time. I know couple of guys who have residence cards of Saudi Arabia, at the same time, they have a residence card of Qatari. Actually, one doesn't affect the other at all.

Just go for it and if you want to renew the Qatar residence card afterwards before it expires, you can do that and keep both valid.

Good luck,

Bonne chance,

Cheers!
