From my experience it's easier to find a job while on the ground. I know a couple of men who followed women out, a few who were electricians and plumbers back in the West and therefore have no chance of finding real work (or at least work where they would make the same amount of money) and have chosen to work part time and be stay at home Dads. It's really something you need to discuss with your girlfriend.
