I'm not blaming Qatar for the lack of atmosphere - the fan zones should be right at the stadiums for maximum effect. I'm certainly not taking the mick out of Qatar - love it here, been here for 4 years and have no intention of leaving soon. I was just making a comparison to other games we have attended. I watched the opening ceremony on the TV and just wish we hadn't been messed around so much so that we missed it - just as loads of other people must have. The events are being organized by an outside company anyway - not the Qataris - my son is one of the team escorts and my husband is one of the accompanying adults and we were talking to the people, all foreigners, when we were picking up their uniforms and security tags. I think they work for the Olympic committee not Qatar.
