If you intend to hand over your car to an agent such as GAC, the total cost would be around AED6000/- plus including transportation (AED4750), fees at Doha check point (QR450), insurance (AED150... can be obtained from one of the authorised insurers in licencing office building of AD police where you will do all other formalities), getting the car deregistered and blue export plates (@AED 600). In order not to pay the customs duty in Doha, if the car is bought in AD, you need a letter from Customs department based on the original invoice and Bill of Lading showing that customs duty has been paid ... both can be obtained from your car dealer. Customs would charge something like AED 300 for this letter.
You can drive through also, but it is Catch 22 situation:
u need to get a Saudi visa (transit) which takes about 14days. Now for applying for this visa u need a clearance from AD police (deregistration and blue colored export plates). As per AD police you need to take out the car from AD with 4 days of issue of this letter. So there you go. This is what I was told...you can however check on the latest, GAC person as mentioned below would be of help in this also.
Office of GAC is in MENA in the lane adjacent to Grand Stores warehouse...I think third left from Toys R Us ...on the same road... In GAC look for Mr. Muzammil...he is incharge of this...
