My family and I also give away old clothes (or some bread and drinks during extremely hot/cold weather). But since my parents don't like me entering construction areas alone, etc, I leave the clothes neatly folded in a clear bag, in the spot where workers usually rest. They pick it up later and happily divide things amongst themselves.
Please don't throw away your old clothes, everyone. Even just some extra shirts can help these men bear the cold weather. But I should say, it is good to do this not simply to get rid of things around the house, but to genuinely help someone out. :)
