Hi Semper,
I just came from Dubai 2 days back.I attended the 2008 Gitex exhibition,a little bit disappointing: laptops, laptops and more laptops!
But I had the chance to play Crysis Wars on one of the Dell XPS of the free lan gaming area,I saw also a few but nice official tournaments rigs (Alienware and XPS again),and last but not least the Acer Predator.
The only hardware parts that was in sold there was from Twinmos:PSU's,Ram and some ridiculously designed cases.
I headed to The Computer Plaza (Al Ain Centre) where I found the Gigabyte Aurora 3D 570 (400Dhs) and Mercury Pro,Thermaltake Armor 8004 (980Dhs) and Kandalf (1200Dhs),Silverstone Kublai KL03 for 600 dhs,Lian-Li which were far above my planned budget.I was about to take the Aurora but I ended with the Silverstone after some on-site quick googling, though the Armor is a superb case. The Kublai is long, sturdy and heavy (14Kg) and I like its design.
I think Dubai is no more a geeky destination, better to purchase online: an XFX nforce 790i ultra mobo costs 1400dhs there,a Leadtek 9800GT 750dhs,a MSI 9800GX2 1550dhs...
Maybe I haven't searched enough...
A lot of water cooling kits,PSU's,fancy fans but from unknown brands, except from the official reseller of Thermaltake products.
The guys there were very helpfull, and they know what they are talking about (I remember one day at PC-one when asking about a PS-2 port mouse,I had been told "sorry we don't have PlayStation mice sir"...!)
Anyway, I purchased the case because it would be too costly in terms of shipping charges,so I will browse Amazon and Newegg for the main parts, and maybe Doha for small other components.
I will post a full story of my dubai trip with pics later on.
