amnesia, i think the issue is because Qatar gives citizenship just for their football skills. they are strictly against giving citizenship to anyone, even if they have spent their whole lives here, whereas the football players become naturalized for their skills. Other countries too have foreign players, but the fact is they allow you or me to be naturalized if we stay there long enuf, and meet the other criteria.
I am not blaming, but just pointing out that the issue is because of the selective naturalisation that is followed. yes, i think the issue is brought up too frequently, especially because Qatar has not broken any rules. I watched the match on an Australian channel, and the commentators had brought up the 'naturalised' word at least half a dozen times. in the end, they referred to Soria as "the Uruguayan international playing for Qatar"! wtf is that???
