I feel its a good policy cuz i get lot of crap mail forwards from jobless ppl working in major organisations(govt. depts. Q-companies etc.).
The mail a/c provided by your employer is strictly for work related purposes.
If one needs to send personal emails or fwd mails, do it @ home using your personal mail a/c.
