Hi,
I hear the government re-opens on the 26th... but don't take my word for it, hopefully someone else will know.
We just did it... so here's what you do.
You should get paperwork from the hospital the baby was born in, titled "Birth Certificate Request"... Make sure it's all filled out.
Then, if the baby was not born at Hamad Hospital, you have to go to the Hamad Women's Hospital (front desk reception) and request a Hamad number. (a silly step in my opinion, but need to do it)
Take that paperwork to the National Health Authority located next to Lulu on Rayyan Road across the street from Hamad Hospital. You'll have to fumble around a bit since there are about 10 steps to complete here but just keep asking people what you do next and you'll eventually figure it out. You will get one original and as many copies as you want. Keep in mind your kid won't want to have to come back to Qatar to find other copies later on in life!
A week later, you pick up the birth certificate!
And, I see you are American, so you'll want to go on the Embassy website to get the applications for a passport, social security card and a "certificate of birth abroad"... REad the instructions carefully so you bring everything you need... That takes 2 weeks...
THen don't forget to get your company to apply for an RP, you get fined if you take too long.
Feel free to send me a message if you have other questions about the process. WE've done it twice here... :)
