Also called the "Advanced Fee Fraud" or "419", these fraudsters do not seem to operate just by blindly sending mass email. They are very methodical in their approach. They will mostly send to people they can confirm the mailboxes. They have a methodology too. :)

In fact, some reports even claim that the 419 is perhaps the 3rd to 5th largest industry in Nigeria. Most of these spam emails are traceable up to Nigeria. That's why they are called the Nigerian scam. It doesn't mean it needs to absolutely come from Nigeria.
