Yes, it is expensive here in some things. Starbucks is about 15 QR for a drink. Local food, like bread, milk, eggs, fruit and vegatable can be cheap if you get the local stuff. If you want Heinz ketchup from the US as opposed to the one made in Egypt (there is a taste difference!) you will pay about 12 QR as opposed to 4 or 5. Eating out can be expensive depending on where you go. Applebees sampler platter for example is 50Qr. You should be able to compare that with in the US! If you go to restaurants that are not chains, it will be much cheaper.

That said, housing should be included in your package. Petrol is cheap, even car insurance is cheaper than in North America. Overall, you have more disposable inncome and generally people lead a better life and can save more living here.
