For a company like QP it takes a week after your Medical, which is usually done on the first week of Arrival. I came back to Qatar to work for QTEL on a new RP last year and I got it in 5 days after the medical. Regarding getting your wife here, you can get her on a visit visa almost immediately after your RP is stamped, within a 3 days, For an RP entry visa (meaning entering with the intention of getting an RP) it takes a week or so. Actually there is no difference, but over here I have seen guys wait when they opted for an RP entry visa because of bureaucratic nonsense. But if your wife carries an American or British passport she can come in, get a visa on arrival and get it changed to an RP easily once you get the paperwork done. QP's Immigration can give you the details. Most Q companies here have very efficient Immigration handling procedures so you needn't worry about delays unless there is some problem with your passport.
