Will my Q-Tel Mobile phone work in U.K.?
Can I use my Q-Tel (pre-pay type Hala card) mobile phone in the U.K. to call U.K. telephone numbers?
If so, exactly how do I dial a U.K. number such as U.K. land line #01332544488 or mobile #07505337988?
Do I dial the numbers like I was dialing from Qatar, using the "00" first and then the above numbers?
I am in the age group that has to have a 4 year old grandchild to set the digital clock on the DVD player, so please word your answer accordingly :)
Roaming now is possible with pre-paid halla cards,
all you need to do is dial a 3 digit number a hash (#) and then the normal in England number, beside filling your acount with at least QR100.
This is new from Qtel..
to get full knowledge of this new service call 111
or go to www.qtel.com.qa
[ I totaly agree with all those who said it would be much cheeper to get a sim card once you reach back home, the one you buy it from can install it onto your mobile]

To dial your 07505337988 number you would dial 00447505337988 to dial your 01332 number you would dial 00441332 etc. Sorry for the confusion, it would only be the landlines that start with a '1' after the international code.
Sim cards are relatively cheap, last time I bought a talktalk sim from Carphone ware house it was about £15, certainly cheaper than using your Q-tel card. I suggest you check on providers web sites. I will be buying one when I go home in July, and I will leave it at home just for use in the UK
Rutland 65,
Thanks for the answer. But I am a bit confused over your statement that the U.K. number parts starts with a "1"
What exactly would I dial for the example numbers that I have given based on actual numbers that were given to me by people in England?
Telephone number: 01332 544488
Mobile No is 07505337988
Do I put a 1 in front of these numbers? Do I drop the "0" on the first number?
Please type it in exactly as I would need to dial it.
Also, do you have any idea what a prepaid sim card might cost just to use for a short stay there?
QTEL HALA CARD doesnt have CALL ROAMING feature. hence you cant use it in overseas.
You will need to dial UK numbers in the same manner as if you were in Qatar e.g 0044 delete the first nought then the rest of the number with area code, so that the UK part of the number would start with a '1'.
It is expensive. But the phones you buy in Qatar are not locked into one provider, so you would be better of buying a sim card in the UK and inserting in your phone and just keeping it for UK calls.
