Backbiting - A Real Eye Opener

Dear All,
I came across this and thought I would share it with you. I knew backbiting is a wrong thing to do, but I never knew its implications are so severe.
Please read and pass on!. May Allah save us all from Jahanam. Aameen.
Backbiting
Majority of us talk about others. I used to do it as well until I realized what the consequences are. My aim to put up the following is to make you all realize that talking about others is not as good for us as easy it is to do.
Firstly, I would like to differentiate talking about others and back-biting. Many people tend to say that "I do not backbite" even when they don’t know what the original meaning of back-biting is. It is very good if you spread good news about someone to others, or tell others about one's success etc. What Muslims should take care about is not to spread what they are supposed to keep as secrets, and something that would bring down one's image in the listener's eyes. Back-biting in definition, is saying anything to another person, which when told to the one(you are talking about) feels bad, or is hurt. And surely Islam doesnt allow us to hurt others' feelings.
For example, if one says, “The teacher is stupid” (which is apparently a pretty much common topic among us students), you know that if u go tell the teacher that hey mam, you're stupid, you know she will feel bad. This is back-biting.
If one says, “The teacher doesn’t know how to teach” this is another form of backbiting where the teacher knows how to teach but you still tell the whole world that she doesn’t. This is called 'taumat'. The punishments in Islam for this is severe. But lets start with the original back-biting in which the case is TRUE but it is bad to spread, ruining one's image or could hurt one.
The following 20 punishments are either from the Quran, Hadith, or are sayings of religious people (Rahimahumull lahul Mubeen). I have the original sayings in Urdu and I shall be translating it in English. May Allah forgive me for any mistake.
1. Backbiting cuts Iman.
2. Backbiting is a reason of bad ending.
3. The one who back-bites often doesn’t get his/her prayers accepted.
4. The 'noor' that we gain from salah and fasting diminishes because of backbiting.
5. Backbiting destroys good deeds.
6. Backbiting burns good deeds.
7. Even if one repents from backbiting, he/she would be the last one to enter Jannah. Hence backbiting is Gunaah-e-Kabeerah, Haraam and a deed that takes you to Jahannam.
8. Backbiting is worse than extra marital affairs. (worse given as 'sakht-tar' in original form)
9. The one who backbites about a Muslim is committing a bigger sin than interest-transactions.
10. If backbiters are put into a sea, the sea will give a bad odour.
11. The one who backbites will have to eat dead person in jahannam.
12. Backbiting is equal to eating a dead brother's meat.
13. The one who backbites will be involved in the punishments of grave.
14. The one who backbites will scratch/peel his face and chest again and again with the nails of metal.
15. The one who backbites will have his meat from thighs being cut aga in and aga in, and given as food.
16. The one who backbites will rise in the form of a dog on the Day of Judgement.
17. The one who backbites will be the monkey of Jahannam.
18. The one who backbites will have to eat his own meat in Jahannam.
19. The one who backbites will be running around between Jahannam's boiling water and fire asking for death and even the other Jahanammis will be irritated/tired of him.
20. The one who backbites will be the first one to enter Jahannam.
I hope this opens your eyes, and in this holy month, where Allah forgives the ones for whom Jahannam is fixed, ask for forgiveness from Allah, as well as those whom you've backbitten about. And make an intention to never backbite again. We are old enough to realize the consequences, every deed is counted, good or bad. Allah forgives till your soul reaches your throat. You never know when you would die!! I hope I made a difference for your good.
