Being a Teacher... - Guzergah-e-khayal Group

Teaching is the most noble profession. I personally place teachers even higher than the medical practitioners. Medical experts save lives but teachers are the guardians of civilization. They impart a civilized attitude to their pupil and the society. This is what the 'meseehaye' is. They inspire their students with a sense of the intellectual delights obtained from new understanding of knowledge. With the help of teachers great intellectual giants are spawned who contribute in setting up the just and progressive societies. Teachers' contribution is unlimited to the proliferation of knowledge. Looking at what they do, teaching should be extremely challenging and a great responsibility.
I have a long-term plan to get into academia and was wondering how it is being in teaching profession. Is it truly exciting as two-way channel; teaching and learning at the same time from your pupils? What are the perils associated with it? What are the chances and support available to conduct original research? I believe teachers should give the pupils a liberalizing mental training. Preparing them for examination is not enough. Major peril would perhaps be the interference of the authorities and people not concerned with education in the working of a teacher. I also believe that a teacher should possess intellectual honesty and broadmindedness in addition to a high tolerance. I have seen this in most of the professors in Europe. Is it same here?
