Two Ramadans in One Year? Here’s what makes 2030 special

As we begin the holy month of Ramadan, we enter a time of fasting, reflection, and spiritual growth. But can you believe that in 2030, because of a rare celestial event, we will be celebrating Ramadan twice within the same Gregorian year.
Why Will There Be Two Ramadans in 2030?
Ramadan follows the Hijri lunar calendar, which is around 10–12 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar. This difference causes Ramadan to shift earlier each year, and it is because of this that we observe Ramadan to shift through from Summer to Winter.
In 2030, this shift will result in two separate Ramadans:
- First Ramadan: January 4 – February 2, 2030
- Second Ramadan: December 26, 2030 – January 24, 2031
The last time this occurred was in 1997, and it won’t happen again until 2063. In fact, this rare occurrence of experiencing two Ramadans in one Gregorian year only happens once every 33 years, making 2030 an especially unique opportunity for spiritual growth, heightened devotion, deeper reflection, and strengthening of community bonds.
