Garangao, also known Gir’gaaon, is one of the popular traditions observed in the GCC. It falls on the 14th night of Ramadan and is an exciting time for celebration for children in the community. This Garangao in Qatar is celebrated by children going around knocking on houses in the neighborhood, decked in traditional Garangao clothes, and singing the Garangao song. The kids are offered Garangao treats and sweets by everyone.
Garangao has now evolved into a more organized, private affair with many commercial establishments, organizations and malls hosting events and activities for children. We have compiled a guide to all Garangao 2023 events in Qatar. Here are the events and activities happening in Qatar for Garangao.
Garangao celebrations in Lusail Boulevard
Lusail city’s list of daily Ramadan celebrations now includes Garangao festivities and promises to be a lot of fun for children.

Garangao on Doha Corniche
The Garangao fun will continue on Qatar's prominent landmark, Doha Corniche, with fun activities for kids and free treats for all. There will be stage sessions teaching Garangao traditions, Sadu bracelet-making workshops, Tribatola for Batoola (girls only), "Draw with Azam" session, and acrylics and patterns. Head over there to enjoy the traditional festivities for Garangao and Ramadan.

Garangao Night on the Pearl Island
Head over to the Pearl Island with your kids for a night of Garangao festivities at the Ramadan Bazaar. Enjoy the festivities featuring live singing by a Garangao troop, traditional Musharati, fun mascots, Garangao goodie bags and Ramadan baskets filled with nuts and candy.

Garangao celebrations at City Center Mall

Celebrate Garangao Festival with Royal Plaza Mall

Doha Fire Station’s first-ever Garangao night
Doha Fire Station has announced its first Garangao night festivities, sponsored by Qatar Financial Center. The activities include painting on tote bags, sweets distribution, henna and more for all age groups.

Garangao Night with Leisure Parks
Leisure Parks: Angry Birds World, Virtuocity, and Snow Dunes, together are hosting a Garangao night including photobooths, face painting, mascot appearance, gift giveaways, and a best outfit competition. Amazing prizes are up for grabs and kids can truly enjoy the event. The event is open and free for all however, registration is necessary.

Celebrate Garangao at Al Shaqab
Celebrate Garangao with Al Shaqab this year with an unforgettable experience that includes traditional workshops and sessions, pony and horse rides, best outfit competition, sadu weaving workshop, Mshaar, lantern-making, quizzes and prizes, sweet treats distribution, and other festivities. Experience Garangao at Al Maha Island
Al Maha Island is also all set to host a memorable Garangao for kids. The event line-up includes traditional Msaharati, storyteller, mascots, and lots of sweet treats. Celebrations are going to kick start after iftar and will be an exciting time for families and especially children.

Head over to Msheireb Downtown Doha to experience the Garangao festivities with your family. Enjoy a unique tour of the neighborhood, onboard the Msheireb tram while your kids receive sweets and treats at Msheireb. *Register for the Garangao Kids Fashion Festival to win prizes for the best Garangao costume. Msheireb Downtown Doha also includes the 360 photo opportunity and other local events and activations.
