Qatar Academy Doha competition sees students represent different nations and broaden their cultural knowledge. Students from a Qatar Foundation school will conclude their own 'international' football competition this week at the Education City Stadium, as Qatar prepares to host one of sport's most prestigious events.

The finals of the Qatar Academy Doha Road to 2022 competition will take place at the venue, with students from kindergarten to fifth grade representing ten teams from countries that have qualified for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 - capping off a journey of sport, wellbeing, interaction, and cultural discovery. The event has seen 1,080 matches played over the last few months, with the finals taking place on June 1-2.

According to Elizabeth Kennedy, Assistant Principal at Qatar Academy Doha Primary School, the tournament sought to assist kids reconnect with one another after a long period of studying remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as reflecting the football craze that is sweeping Qatar.

"It is a global experience for our students, and we are proud of the enthusiasm they showed for the tournament, which has highlighted their passion for football and their desire to support the upcoming FIFA World Cup™. here in Qatar," said Kennedy.

The event, according to Miller Green, Lead Teacher at Qatar Academy Doha Primary School, has helped pupils improve their sporting abilities, as well as their football skills and physical fitness. The tournament has created an atmosphere of excitement for staff and students alike, and also introduced the students to new friends. According to Green, the competition has also boosted students' passion for learning because it incorporates studies on the cultures of the countries that have qualified for the FIFA World Cup. The students were divided into several groups, which allowed them to meet new people from various school levels and ages.

The Education City Stadium's hosting of this event will leave a lasting impression on the students at the school, which is part of Qatar Foundation's Pre-University Education program, with Grade 5 student Sultan Al-Suwaidi stating that he will never forget playing in a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 stadium.

Al-Anoud Al-Thani, a Grade 5 student, said that her participation in the tournament taught her the value of teamwork, and that she learned more about the history of football in the United States and the tournaments in which American teams have participated because she has played for the US national team.

Participating in this tournament has helped them become more prepared to help host the World Cup as a society, where they can show Qatari civilization and culture to the world as they host people from different countries and cultures.
