What’s new for Eid 2022 in Qatar?
Eid al-Fitr 2022 is just about here and everyone is ready for the much more relaxed and ecstatic vibe the festival has brought this time around. After two whole years of the pandemic, where the celebration was mostly subdued so far with several restrictions in place, this Eid weekend is set to be so much more different. It is refreshing to imagine we can all enjoy the most-awaited festival in the Islamic calendar with much fervor and joy.
What’s new for Eid 2022, you may ask? Here is what’s new:
Mask-free Eid in public spaces
According to the latest Covid-19 updates and restrictions shared by the Qatar Cabinet on April 2, 2022, the general public is no longer obligated to wear the face mask in open public spaces. Even visitors to the malls are not necessitated to wear masks inside the mall, except when inside shops. Moreover, according to the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), nearly 89.2% of the population is vaccinated with both doses of the vaccine.
All this will contribute to the fact that Eid al-Fitr celebrations can happen in a much more relaxed, safe manner.
Eid al-Fitr with FIFA vibes
What is unique about Eid 2022 is that up so close to the legendary football tournament, the festival is extremely joyous and has all the FIFA vibes. With just a couple of months remaining for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, this Eid al-Fitr will have everyone in Qatar excited for the event, irrespective of whether they are football fans or not.
Eid prayers without social distancing
Although last year mosques were open to the public for prayers, it still was a very restricted affair with social distancing and no children were allowed inside the mosque. However, this year, people are gearing up to pray at the mosques for Eid prayer as there is no need for social distancing and even children are permitted to pray in the mosque along with men and women. Check out the list of mosques that have been approved by Awqaf Ministry for Eid prayers.
Social gatherings
Now that this Eid is calmer than the last two years, people intend to participate in social gatherings without severe restrictions and enjoy themselves with their loved ones and family members. Residents and citizens are already making plans to visit cafes, restaurants, malls, beaches, parks, and public spaces with fewer apprehensions. They are even looking at different hotel staycations, water sports, and other fun outdoor activities to try with their families and kids.
Eid al-Fitr festival
For the first time ever, Qatar Tourism has announced the occurrence of the Eid al-Fitr 2022 festival that will be hosted on Doha Corniche from May 3-5 from 4-11 pm each day. Doha Corniche will be fully pedestrianized for the duration of this event and traffic will resume again from May 6, morning onwards.
This is perhaps the most anticipated event for Eid as there are a plethora of options for the whole family to enjoy. The festival will feature amazing attractions, such as a marching band, live musical performances, and carnival games.
The region’s biggest balloon parade is also expected to be a star attraction for adults and kids alike. The public can also enjoy several eating from food trucks, kiosks, and vendors at the venue.
The most spectacular sight will be the fireworks on display that will light up the Doha skyline each night at 9 pm.
