
Qatar clinches second gold at Arab Table Tennis Championship

Qatar's table tennis team clinched their second gold at the ongoing Arab Table Tennis Championships in Amman, Jordan, yesterday after the Under-13 team defeated their Tunisian counterpart 3-0 in the final to win the category.
The Under-11 team had on Friday gave Qatar its first gold with the 3-2 defeat of Tunisia at the tournament being held from August 10-23 at the Jordanian capital.
Yesterday's victory brings Qatar's total medal haul so far to six, namely silver won by the Under-15 team on Friday, while the Under-19, the men's senior team, and the women's team have each won bronze, respectively.
En route the gold-winning performance, the Under-13 team topped its group with six points after winning all the three group-stage matches convincingly, defeating Iraq, Jordan and Syria 3-0 before booking a semifinal clash against Egypt. The Egyptians also fell 3-0 to the rampaging Qatari starlets.
In the final match against Tunisia, who had dispatched Syria in the other semifinal, Qatar's Ahmed Eid wallopped Youssef Al-Aidli 3-0 (11-4, 11-8, 11-4), while Sultan Al-Kuwari sealed the victory for Qatar by defeating Youssef Qirfal 3-0 (11-3, 11-4, 11-3).
Khalil bin Ahmed Al Mohannadi, President of Qatar and Arab Table Tennis Federations and First Vice President of the Asian and International Table Tennis Federations (ITTF), crowned the champions in the presence of Steve Dainton - ITTF Executive Director.
Al Mohannadi praised the achievements of the Qatari champions and their impressive performance at the tournament.
"The performance of the team so far proves that Qatar's sports are reaping the fruits of its efforts over the past years, following a deliberate strategy to reach this honorable level of results," he said.
He stressed the continued support for all Qatari teams to maintain and continue their high level of performance and achieve more victories for the country.
