World Cup Qatar 2022 Qualifiers: Qatar take of Group E beating India 1-0
The Qatari national team defeated the Indian national team, (1-0) in the match that took place between them yesterday at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, Al Sadd Sports Club, as part of the seventh round of Group E matches in the Asian double qualifiers, qualifying for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the Asian Nations Cup China 2023.
Abdulaziz Hatem scored the game's only goal in the 32nd minute.
The Indian team played the match with ten men, starting from the 17th minute, which saw its defender Rahul Pique sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
With this victory, Qatar strengthened its position at the top of the general standings of the group with 19 points from seven matches, 7 points behind its nearest competitor, Oman, which is in second place.
The match between Qatar and India came at a medium level, dominated by the Qatari team from the beginning to the end, who managed to score the only goal throughout the two halves, and missed many opportunities thanks to the brilliance of India's goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, the best player of the match, who saved his goal from several dangerous chances.
The Qatari team pressed early with the start of the first half, hoping to score an early goal and confuse the opponent, but the Indian team was organized defensively and was more than a match thanks to the high fitness of its players and the fighting spirit in which they fought the meeting.
The Qatari attack on the Indian goal almost resulted in a goal in the 12th minute, but Abdulaziz Hatem's shot went over the crossbar by centimeters, followed by a powerful shot from Abdul Karim Hassan, which was blocked by India goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu in the 15th minute.
And in the 17th minute, India defender Rahul Pique was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, so the team completed the rest of the match with ten players, which made the Qatari team besieged India in the center of its stadium throughout the match.
The Qatari offensive pressure resulted in the goal that came from Abdulaziz Hatem in the 32nd minute after an organized attack from the left side, which was passed by Abdul Karim Hassan, a cross that India's defense failed to clear, so Hatem put it easily in the goal to the right of the goalkeeper.
On the other hand, the Indian team organized offensive attempts at intervals, but it did not pose a real danger to the goal of Qatar goalkeeper Saad Al-Sheeb, with the exception of an attempt by the defense (38).
In the last minutes of the first half, Qatar tried to boost the result with a second goal, and missed more than one chance, most notably Abdul Karim Hassan's goal against India, but he shot it powerfully, which the goalkeeper brilliantly blocked in the 45th minute.
With the beginning of the second half, the Qatari team continued its attack to score a second goal, as Muhammad Muntari missed an opportunity to achieve a goal after receiving the ball in the penalty area and hitting a strong shot in the middle of the goal to be blocked by Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, India goalkeeper (53).
Qatar players continued to waste easy opportunities In front of the Indian goal, as Abdul Karim Hassan missed the opportunity of a goal after a through ball from the left side put him in a one on one situation, but he hit a bad ball that the Indian goalkeeper easily saved in the 63rd minute.
With the passage of time, the ball was confined to the center of the field, and the Indian team appeared better after the Qatar team made more than one substitution and removed its key players, but the few attacks of the Indian team failed to surprise Qatar with an equalizer.
In the last minutes of the match, the Qatari attacking attempts continued to boost the result with a second goal, but to no avail, in light of the superiority of India's defense and the brilliance of its goalkeeper, and Abdullah Al-Ahraq's shot rebounded from the right post in the 85th minute, and no one was found to take the chance.
