Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Qatar has provided medical and humanitarian aid to as many as 88 countries across the globe, the country’s Government Communications Office (GCO) has highlighted.

In a post on its Twitter page, the GCO drew attention to Qatar’s support to the global fight against the pandemic, stating that the combined aid from Qatari government and non-government entities amounts to more than $256 million.

The GCO listed some of Qatar’s endeavors in this regard, such as Qatar’s pledge of $20 million to Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) last year and Qatar Fund for Development’s (QFFD) commitment of $10 million to support the GAVI COVAX Advance Market Commitment that aims to procure 1.3 million vaccine dozes by the end of 2021.

The national carrier’s cargo, Qatar Airways Cargo, has transported almost 20 million vaccines to nations around the world, the GCO mentioned.

Just this month, the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) introduced a new project seeking to raise $100 million in donations to provide COVID-19 vaccines to over three million refugees, internally displaced persons and migrants in 20 countries, the GCO added.

"These pledges demonstrate the solidarity of Qatar with the international community and its commitment to providing the support required at all levels to effectively fight the COVID-19 pandemic," the GCO stressed.
