HMC official calls on families to support elderly relatives to get COVID-19 vaccine

As Qatar continues to roll out its National COVID-19 Vaccination Program, the country’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) recently announced that more than 327,000 vaccine doses have been administered so far.
Dr. Hanadi Al Hamad, National Health Strategy 2018-2022 Lead for Healthy Ageing, has called upon family members to support elderly relatives to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Dr. Al Hamad explained, “Now that we have approved and effective vaccines, elderly people have the opportunity to become protected and live free from the threat of this virus.
I ask anyone with elderly relatives who are not yet vaccinated to support your elderly mother, father and loves ones to get vaccinated and get protected. Please ensure they understand that the vaccines are safe, and more than 327,000 doses have been safety administered to the most vulnerable people in Qatar.”
Dr. Al Hamad highlighted that older people have more risk from COVID-19.
“People over 60 years of age are more likely to get sick, more likely to need medical treatment, more likely to require admission to ICU and, sadly, more at risk of dying as a result of severe complications from COVID-19.”
“The National COVID-19 Vaccination Program is now moving at pace and it is pleasing to know that more than half of Qatar’s elderly population have now received at least one dose of the vaccine, with 61 percent of people over 70 years of age and 55 percent of people over 60 years of age having received at least one vaccine dose,” added Dr. Al Hamad.
COVID-19 vaccines are available in all 27 primary health centers and HMC homecare teams are vaccinating housebound patients in the safety and comfort of their own homes.
Anyone over 60 years of age should call Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) on 4027 7077 to book a vaccination appointment.
