Qatar pledges to provide $60 million to solve electricity crisis in Gaza

Qatar has spared no effort in supporting Palestine over the years, be it in the form of providing monetary aid, rebuilding houses, extending medical support, or advocating for the Palestinian cause at various international meetings.
Just at the beginning of this month, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani gave directives to provide a financial grant of $360 million to the residents of the Gaza Strip for the year 2021. The grant comes within the framework of the State of Qatar's continued support for the brotherly Palestinian people besieged in Gaza.
The Hamas movement had praised Qatar's continuous and generous support for the people of Palestine and recognized its efforts toward implementing several important projects.
Now, the Chairman of Qatar's Gaza Reconstruction Committee Ambassador Mohammed Al Emadi has highlighted that the country has pledged to provide $60 million to support a project that aims to provide the Gaza Strip with the gas necessary to solve the electricity crisis.

The Ambassador confirmed this during a virtual meeting with the Prime Minister of Palestine Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, and the representative of the European Union to Palestine Sven Kuhn von Burgsdorff.
The amount will be allocated to support the extension of gas pipelines from the Israeli side, Ambassador Al Emadi mentioned.
The EU has pledged to offer an amount of EUR 20 million to help in the extensions of the pipelines inside the Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian PM hailed the support from Qatar and the EU, highlighting the importance of the project that aims to transport gas from the Israeli side to supply the power plant in the Gaza Strip.
This project will expand the electrical capacity and help in securing regularity of the current in the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian PM pointed out.
The meeting between the officials also looked into plans to enhance the only power station in Gaza and setting up a system to allow it to operate on gas as an alternative to liquid fuel.
