Qatar has spared no effort in protecting the health of its citizens and residents since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

From allocating dedicated facilities to test and manage COVID-19 patients to coordinating with top international pharmaceutical companies to secure safe and reliable vaccines for the country’s citizens and residents.

Earlier this month, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) approved Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in Qatar.

With the expansion of its nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign, MoPH also recently opened a temporary vaccination center at Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC).

In an interview with Qatar Television earlier this week, Dr Abdullatif Al Khal, Chair of the National Health Strategic Group on COVID-19 and Head of Infectious Diseases at Hamad Medical Corporation said that over 140,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Qatar, so far.

“These numbers are likely to increase in the coming days very quickly as more supply of the vaccine have begun to be available,” he told Qatar TV at the new vaccination center in QNCC.

“Qatar also received the first shipment of Moderna vaccine, in a limited quantity only to test the delivery or shipping and storage process and its use.

“We expect that larger quantities of this vaccine will arrive, but I can assure you that there is no difference between Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.

“They both have the same combinations, same efficiency and the same degree of safety,” Dr Al Khal highlighted.

MoPH has also been urging citizens and residents above 60 to get themselves vaccinated against COVID-19 at the earliest possible.

The current phase of the national COVID-19 vaccination program prioritizes healthcare professionals; key personnel, and first responders; long-term care and home care patients, and people aged 70 years old and above; people with severe or multiple conditions; people aged between 50 to 69; and 50 percent of teachers.

Yesterday, the Ministry announced that teachers and school administration staff have also been added to the current priority group COVID-19 vaccination.
