On World Children’s Day, an annual event which is celebrated on November 20, Qatar Charity has initiated a number of projects aimed at promoting children’s welfare and raising awareness among children globally.

The special occasion that celebrates the rights of children requires more attention this year because of the ongoing pandemic, creating many barriers for children across the world.

Moreover, the impact of the coronavirus on the economic stability in many countries has been the cause of increased child labor, and negatively affecting the lives of millions of poor families and orphans alike.

The International Labor Organization (ILO) pointed out that over 152 million children are currently engaged in the labor market around the world, with 72 million working long hours in hazardous work environments.

To address this issue, Qatar Charity has taken steps to ensure quality education, shelter, and other requirements to orphans and students affected by natural disasters across the world.

Under the ‘Rofaqa’ initiative, Qatar Charity has been able to provide comprehensive care for orphans in health, educational, and social fields.

It is also continuing to set up more projects aimed to provide aid, such as the Khubaib Bin Adi and Taiba in Education City, which is expected to benefit over 6,600 orphans and families.

Qatar Charity has also implemented projects in relation to education during emergencies and e-learning between the years 2019 and 2020. At an expense of over QAR 64 million, the project aims to assist children by providing furniture, school bags, textbooks, and paying tuition fees in over 30 countries.

Partnering with the World Refugee School has enabled Qatar Charity to design an e-learning project to provide internationally recognized certificates to children.  For this purpose, Qatar Charity designed an integrated digital platform and digital labs in schools where students can do assignments.

Furthermore, Qatar Charity has organized a health project in Lebanon, offering free healthcare services to underprivileged pregnant women. This project creates a joyful atmosphere for receiving a newborn by providing all the necessary facilities.

Qatar Charity won the Orphan Care Excellence Award (Kafel) for the current year, from the Regional Network for Social Responsibility in co-operation with regional and international organizations and bodies.

Qatar Charity received the award during its participation in the activities of the 3rd World Conference on Orphan Care 2020, which was organized remotely, for its role in supporting comprehensive orphan care services in the social, health, educational, and entertainment fields.
