How to renew your visa and residence permit in Qatar
The current COVID-19 pandemic has been the source of confusion and distress for our community in Qatar. We are aware that many of you have questions regarding the renewal of residence permits, visas, and extension of visas.
Before we go into more details on how to renew permits, we would like to recommend a PRO service that we use at Qatar Living. The following information will inform you of the steps that need to be taken to answer some of your questions.
As a resident of Qatar, it is important to download the Metrash2 app on your smartphone. The app will allow you perform many services that are generally provided by the Expatriate Affairs Department of the General Directorate of Passports.

Another way to renew your RP and extended visa is through the MOI Eservices-portal. It allows residents to renew permits online for 1 to 3 years. Qataris, residents, and companies holding Qatari Smart ID Cards have access to this service. Visas can be extended using the following link: https://portal.moi.gov.qa/visitvisaextension. These are the steps you will need to follow to renew you QID, once you are on the website.
- Sign in to the e-services portal of Ministry of Interior using your Smart Card.
- Select ‘Residency Services and then ‘Renew Residency’.
- Both companies and individuals can then select the QID number that requires to be renewed.
- Choose the renewal period for the selected Residence Permit.
- Choose your delivery option for the new residence permit
- Pay the applicable fees.
Those who are stuck outside of Qatar will be required to apply for an entry permit through Hukoomi Qatar. The website also provides steps on how to apply for an ‘Exceptional Entry Permit’. Once your entry permit has been approved, you will be required to bring a copy of your approved Entry Permit and download the Ehteraz app available on both the App Store and Google Play Store.
The Ehteraz will indicate your COVID-19 health status, ranging from green, yellow, grey and red. This is a mandatory app that will be required once you land at Hamad International Airport and will require a sim registered under your QID.
