QRCS marks World Humanitarian Day

The occasion recognizes the heroic efforts of humanitarian workers across the globe and calls for the protection of relief workers as they continue to help people in need despite the challenges in their way.
World Humanitarian Day 2020 honors ‘The Real-Life Heroes” that include frontline health care workers, volunteers from the community, and all those who put their lives at risk to protect others especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and amid other crises.
In a press statement, QRCS highlighted that the day is marked under the theme of ‘Providing Life-Saving Support during the Pandemic.’
The past few months have seen relief workers experience unprecedented challenges to deliver humanitarian support to those most impacted around the world.

Being an active member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, QRCS underlined that it serves a central mission of mobilizing the power of humanity for the best interest of the vulnerable everywhere.
Through its fruitful partnerships with international societies in 192 countries, QRCS has continued to provide its humanitarian services.
"In the face of the COVID-19 outbreak, QRCS has played a significant role by supporting the efforts of the government and sectors of Qatar to contain the health and economic consequences, as well as helping many fellow national societies minimize its impact on the vulnerable segments of society," the statement highlighted.
Early on in the crisis, QRCS had launched the 'Volunteer for Qatar' campaign, which recruited 13,800 young women and men to perform several activities and contribute to the country’s fight against COVID-19.
The volunteers played an essential role in guiding consumers at shopping centers, managing quarantine facilities, and providing medical and logistic services as well as health education and psychological support.
In addition to this, the volunteers’ work also focused on restoring family links, street disinfection, public hygiene inspection, distribution of masks and gloves to the public, and delivery of food baskets to families affected by the lockdown.
Workers’ Health Centers continued to operate as normal, and the fleet of ambulances was deployed to transport the infected cases. Two units were opened to do swabbing in cooperation with Hamad Medical Corporation.
Medical professionals were stationed at the Mekaines quarantine camp 24/7 to provide a wide range of medical services for the inmates.
Additionally, the QRCS Training and Development Center saw several courses and lectures delivered to medical workers and volunteers engaged in the operation. This was in addition to health awareness events for the public.
On the international front, QRCS’ 19 foreign representation missions and offices coordinated with relevant national and government authorities to provide humanitarian support in line with preventive measures.
More than 300,000 people in Bangladesh, Turkey, Syria, Gaza, Iraq, Yemen, and Lebanon have benefitted from QRCS COVID-19 control efforts in the last few months.
The support came in the form of healthcare, food aid, and health education, protective supplies for medical professionals, COVID-19 testing equipment, and quarantine facilities.
"Realizing its invaluable humanitarian role, QRCS secures all protections for relief, medical and voluntary workers on the field,” the QRCS statement said, adding "All the protective tools are supplied, such as masks, gloves, shoe covers, face shields and personal protective equipment (PPE). Social distancing and personal sanitization are ensured at all times."
On World Humanitarian Day, QRCS "would like to send a 'Thank You' message to those heroes, in the name of everyone in society who were protected against, or treated from, such a serious disease"
