COVID-19: MoPH announces 498 new cases and 701 new recoveries

In today’s coronavirus (COVID-19) statistics, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) announced that Qatar recorded 498 new cases and 701 new recoveries.
In the last 24 hours, 11 new patients were admitted to intensive care due to COVID-19. With these, the total number of cases in intensive care has reached 141.
The new confirmed cases of infection have been introduced to complete isolation in the various medical facilities in Qatar, where they receive the necessary healthcare according to the health status of each case.
Furthermore, the Ministry stated that Qatar has succeeded in flattening the curve and limiting the spread of the disease.
Qatar's proactive and extensive testing of suspected cases has enabled it to identify a high number of positive cases in the community, the Ministry stated.
The Ministry also underlined that Qatar has one of the lowest COVID-19 death rates in the world. This is due to a combination of factors including, the country's young population, proactive testing to identify cases, expanding hospital capacity, as well as protecting the elderly and those with chronic diseases.
The Ministry reiterated that while numbers are declining and restrictions are being eased, it does not mean the pandemic has ended in Qatar.
Every day between 50 to 100 people are admitted to the hospital with moderate to severe COVID-19 symptoms, MOPH said.
The Ministry cautioned that everyone must follow all precautionary measures or else Qatar may experience a second wave of the virus and see numbers increasing.
Now, more than ever, we must be careful and protect the vulnerable, the Ministry stressed.
"It is vital that we continue to protect the elderly and those with chronic conditions," the Ministry said.
The Ministry reiterated everyone's role in controlling the virus by following the recommended precautionary measures. This includes wearing face masks in public, maintaining social distance, and washing hands regularly.
Further, the Ministry said individuals who display symptoms of COVID-19 should either quickly contact the 16000 helplines or go directly to one of the designated health centers for testing. This is important to ensure early detection and appropriate treatment and care.
The four main testing centers are:
- Muaither Health Centre
- Rawdat Al Khalil Health Centre
- Um Slal Health Centre
- Al Gharafa Health Centre
