Cabinet extends precautionary measures to combat COVID-19

As Qatar ramps up efforts to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the country's Cabinet has announced that the precautionary measures in place to protect the health and ensure the safety of citizens and residents will remain in effect.

This was confirmed at the Cabinet's regular meeting held yesterday via video conferencing technology.

Chaired by His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani the meeting reviewed and approved certain draft decisions.

The meeting commenced with an overview of the latest developments and efforts made by the country to curb the spread of COVID-19. HE the Minister of Public Health shared these updates with the Cabinet.

After the meeting, HE the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi announced the highlights of the meeting.

He outlined the below:

- The Cabinet approved a draft law amending some provisions of Law No 1 of 1986 for the registration of pharmaceutical companies and their products.

- The Cabinet gave its go-ahead on a draft law amending some provisions of Law No 12 of 1998 to organize the Central Municipal Council and referred it to the Shura Council.

- The Cabinet approved draft decisions by HE the Minister of Justice to issue rules for the obligations of real estate brokers and notaries empowered with requirements to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. This would be in addition to issuing rules for the obligations of lawyers with the requirements of combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

- The Cabinet approved a draft decision of HE the Minister of Commerce and Industry on the executive regulations of Law No 1 of 2019 regulating non-Qatari capital in economic activity.

- The Cabinet gave a nod to the provisions of Law No 24 of 2002 pertaining to retirement and pensions for some departments. It also approved an agreement on a mutual exemption from visa requirements for holders of ordinary passports between the governments of Qatar and Azerbaijan.

Furthermore, during the meeting, the Cabinet delved into the results of the extraordinary meeting of the GCC Committee of Labour Ministers, held on April 15, through a video conference, and took the appropriate decision.

Meanwhile, health authorities in Qatar continue to implement the highest level of monitoring, detection, and management procedures to deal with the virus, the public has been advised to follow certain measures to safeguard their health.
