Working in Qatar: Work Visa/Permits
All foreign employees are required to have a work visa or Residency Permit (RP) to legally work in Qatar.
The company acts as the local sponsor for the employee and arranges the requirements to obtain both the visa and permit.
Qatar’s work visas are arranged by the employer and are valid for 1 – 3 months.
To apply for a work visa, the employee must have a valid employment contract in place that must be approved by the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor, and Social Affairs (MADLSA).
Qatar has recently opened Qatar Visa Centers (QVC) in several countries to make the process much easier for people who wish to work in Qatar.
They can apply through those visa centers in their home countries and after approval from the employer they can complete their medical, biometric and documents processing requirements from these centers and start working in Qatar upon arrival.
It saves them time and makes the process hassle-free upon arriving in the country.
QVC is expanding its network and targeting more countries to open their QVC centers to know whether your country is on the list you can visit their website.
As Qatar is gearing up for the revolutionary event FIFA World Cup 2022, the country needs a huge amount of workforce for providing safety and for the completion of projects to make the most desirable event possible.
Keeping in view the current situation there are several changes underway that are expected to be implemented soon.
Director-General of Passports announced the proposal to introduce a new temporary work visa system for some professions and jobs to accommodate the need of the labor market and create a suitable environment.
These visas will be granted to private companies, commercial and other licensed entities in the country to perform some emergency, temporary or seasonal work that requires the workforce for a specific period, season or occasion.
Temporary work visas valid for one month will be charged QR300 and for two months QR500. Visas valid from 3 to 6 months will be charged QR200 for each month.
