Ashghal opens fourth underpass at Mesaimeer Interchange

Construction works on the first-of-its-kind Mesaimeer Interchange are moving ahead swiftly as the three-level interchange nears completion.
Over the last three months, Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) announced the opening of the first, second and third underpasses at the impressive interchange.
Now, Ashghal has opened the fourth underpass to traffic at this vital junction.
The new 500-meter long underpass will facilitate traffic flow from E-Ring Road toward Doha Expressway. It can accommodate over 3,000 cars per hour.
According to Ashghal, the underpass has been opened two months before its scheduled time.
Ashghal's Engineer Ahmad Ali Al Emadi said the new underpass marks the fourth big achievement at the Mesaimeer Interchange.
He pointed out that 80 percent of the works at the interchange is now complete.
“The new underpass connects traffic from E-Ring Road toward Doha Expressway, providing free-flowing traffic for road users coming from Al Thumama and Old Airport towards Doha Expressway without using the existing traffic diversion,” the official said.
Upon completion, the Mesaimeer Interchange will be 6.1 kilometers long and will be able to accommodate 20,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.
With nine underpasses and two main bridges, it will serve as an essential link for traffic flow between six key roads - E Ring Road, Doha Expressway, Southern Doha Expressway, Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor, Industrial Area Road, and Rawdat Alkhail Street.
It will include a sophisticated intelligent transport system where surveillance cameras and a vehicle number monitor will be installed, as well as an emergency traffic system.
The Mesaimeer Interchange will be operational by the second quarter of 2020 and will play a major role in improving the traffic movement and saving more than 60 percent of travel time.

I am so happy about my colleague , she will arrive early now .....
Would be great if they knew how to connect roads! Who designs a road that goes from a 3 turning lane into a 2 turing lane but incompetent Engineers?!!!! Seriously, this is dangerous.... I almost got into an accident.
If your motto is that "Qatar deserves the Best" then prove it by employing competent engineers who take into context the surrounding environment when constructing the roads. Make the roads safe and practical.
