Qatar highlights efforts to implement National Vision 2030 goals

Qatar has been working hard toward the achievement of the goals specified under the country’s National Vision for 2030.
An integral part of these goals is some developmental plans and strategies under the goals of the Commission for Social Development and the United Nations.
In this regard, His Excellency Ghanem Mubarak Al Kuwari, assistant undersecretary for social affairs at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour, and Social Affairs, said Qatar has taken great steps to meet these goals.
Speaking at the 58th session of the UN Commission for Social Development recently, HE Al Kuwari drew attention to the country’s initiatives to provide appropriate housing for all, regulated by the housing law.
The law presents several benefits such as long-term financing in easy installments, the free-of-cost provision of lands intended for construction, drawing approved engineering plans, providing basic services such as electricity and water, and refurbishing old homes and maintaining them for citizens without any charge.
He also acknowledged a ministerial decision that focused on the conditions for appropriate housing for expatriate workers in Qatar.
Qatar underscored its great efforts to implement the goals stated in Qatar National Vision 2030, which included coherent strategies in which development projects and strategies are in line with the goals of the Commission for Social Development and the UN. #QNA

According to the decision, the housing conditions must be in line with international standards and must meet the minimum health requirements for workers’ accommodation, he said, adding that officials from the Ministry perform regular inspections to monitor the implementation of the required conditions.
Based on these conditions, he said, the country is taking steps to establish a number of residential cities for workers.
Concerning the population policy (for 2017- 2022), the official said Qatar is well on track with the balance between population growth and the necessities of sustainable development.
The country can achieve this while ensuring a decent life for the people of Qatar, enhancing their capabilities, and encouraging them to play their part in supporting the progress of the Qatari society.
Further, speaking about advancing the rights of women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, HE Al Kuwari pointed toward the recent decision of the Council of Ministers to set up the National Committee for Woman, Child, Elderly and Persons with Disabilities Affairs.
The National Committee has granted wide powers to protect and promote the rights of these groups, he said.
Among these efforts are finding ways to promote the wellbeing of these groups according to the goals specified under international agreements and covenants that Qatar has agreed upon.
HE Al Kuwari also spoke about Qatar’s focus on social protection, saying it is an essential part of the country’s social development.
Under this focus, he said, Qatar’s social protection strategy is built upon three main pillars: social welfare, social capital, and the family.
This supports the country’s ambition to create an integrated, effective and sustainable social welfare system.
