
HH The Amir says the Gulf crises will pass, but Qatar’s economy has grown stronger

HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani addressed the meeting of Qatar’s Shoura Council today morning.
The Qatari leader said that while he regrets continuation of the Gulf crisis, it would pass, according to Al Jazeera.

HH The Amir said his country would continue to develop its oil and gas industries and that it was keen to preserve its status as the world’s top liquefied natural gas exporter.
“History teaches us that crises pass, but if they’re handled badly then this may leave traces which last for a long time,” he was quoted as saying by Al Jazeera.

“It’s very regrettable that the continuation of the Gulf crisis exposed the failure of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which has weakened its ability to face challenges and threats and marginalised its role in the region,” he added.

He also spoke about his country’s economic achievement, saying Qatar had grown its exports by 18% last year and slashed its spending by 20%, reported Reuters.

HH The Amir said Qatar’s currency had preserved its value despite the illegal siege and said that the economy had diversified to overcome the impact of the illegal siege.
